University of Cumbria launches new tenth anniversary logo

Tenth anniversary UoC logo[A] new logo, created in readiness for the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the inauguration of the University of Cumbria, has been launched.

The design, which will become a familiar sight over the coming months on merchandise and marketing material, has been developed to mark the organisation’s first decade in operation.

August sees the start of celebrations. Since its inception, the university has developed a strong academic reputation in education, healthcare and visual and performing arts. More recent diversification into broader academic areas including biology, zoology and paramedic science has seen student numbers in these areas increase.

Vice Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell says: “In many ways we’re unique: the only university with a location in a National Park, campuses in Cumbria, Lancashire and London, and a very strong commitment to our growing role and contribution to place, individual, community and regional prosperity.

“The coming year will be particularly exciting as we have recently applied for research degree awarding powers (RDAP) which will give us the right to award doctoral degrees and masters degrees for research. We’ll be celebrating the university in a series of special events for everyone to enjoy.”

As well as looking forward, the university will also be recording the memories of staff, students, graduates and members of the communities it serves in Lancashire, Cumbria and London, which will be shared on social media. A library of material will be created within a bespoke web page that will be launched in the summer and act as a fascinating insight into the growth of one of the country’s newest higher education institutions.

“Over the coming year we have exciting plans to celebrate this significant milestone, including a new strategic plan which will have a real impact on the county and the region,” adds Professor Mennell.

“We’re proud to be a university for Cumbria and the wider region, and we can look forward with confidence to the next decade and beyond.”
