[O]utstanding NHS staff have been recognised for their hard work and dedication, at a recent awards event in Penrith.
The Amazing People Recognition Awards give staff at Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) the opportunity to nominate colleagues who they feel deserve to be recognised for going above and beyond.
On Tuesday 25th April, the award winners were invited along to a small event at the Cumbria Rural Enterprise Business Centre to celebrate their achievements.
Claire Molloy, Chief Executive at CPFT who presented the awards celebration said:
“The standard of nominations we received was incredibly high and the judging panel had a very difficult task in selecting the winners. I know how hard all of our staff work every day and through our Amazing People Recognition Awards we can celebrate and recognise those who have gone over and above what is expected of them.
“As a Trust we want to acknowledge the fantastic work our staff do and build recognition into what we do day in day out. The awards are one way for us to show our appreciation to staff. As well as celebrating individuals and teams, we are celebrating our collective workforce, made up of amazing people.”
“This is also an opportunity for me to personally thank all members of our staff for their continued hard work and support throughout the challenges we are faced with.”
The awards comprised of five categories and the winners of each are:
Outstanding Service Improvement: South Lakes Community Respiratory Service
The team has introduced changes to their pulmonary rehabilitation programme which have resulted in excellent patient feedback, reduced delays accessing services and more choice for patients – all achieved with no additional budget.
Outstanding Team of the year (non-clinical): Clinical Governance Team
This is a relatively new team which has been in place for less than two years; prior to this team coming together the clinical governance function was spread across many different teams. In a relatively short amount of time this team has developed themselves into one team which always focuses on providing support directly to care groups.
Outstanding Team of the year (clinical): Neurological and older peoples Physiotherapy – Copeland / Allerdale
This team provides rehabilitation for older people and clients with neurological disability. They consistently perform beyond expectations, made possible only by the hard work and dedication of staff. Feedback consistently demonstrates their commitment to building meaningful and therapeutic relationships with all patients, while working with compassion and empathy.
Outstanding Leadership: Elspeth Desert (Clinical Director) Physical Health and Rehabilitation Psychology Service and Persistent Physical Symptoms ServiceElspeth has led on new service developments and has shown great passion, commitment and resolutions to do the best for the local Cumbrian communities.
Outstanding Individual: Anna Cooke, Stroke Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, Community East and Susan Worth, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Carlisle
Anna has exceeded her own high standards and really made a difference to patient care, by identifying a lack of good mouth care for patients who were nil by mouth on the acute stroke ward. She has since led the nursing and health care team to provide regular mouth care to patients and increase awareness and confidence in dealing with this issue.
Susan has the ability to form relationships with all her patients and nothing is too much trouble to make a positive difference in their lives. By thinking outside the box she gains trust and enables individuals to build confidence to achieve beyond what they thought was possible. Patients cannot help but smile in her company and be lifted in their mood even if just for short periods.
Dave Waddington, Staff Chairman at CPFT who was on the judging panel said: “Overall the award nominations we received were extremely impressive and the showed the commitment staff at CPFT have for delivering excellent patient care and support”.
The Trust plans to host its second Amazing People Recognition Awards next year.
