[A] TEENAGER has been sent to custody for offences of sexual activity with a child and dangerous driving.

Ryan Armstrong, 19, was handed a two-and-a-half-year jail term at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES).

Armstrong had previously admitted two counts of sexual activity with a child, along with dangerous driving in a Renault Clio, other motoring matters and cannabis possession.

The court heard the victim of his sex crimes was a girl aged in her early teens.

Armstrong’s dangerous driving occurred on New Year’s Day in Workington. During a police pursuit he travelled at speed on residential roads, narrowly avoided an “horrific” head-on collision and swerved violently as his passenger leapt from the Clio at around 40mph, before crashing.

A remorseful Armstrong, of Charles Close, Workington, was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years. He must also abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
