[T]he University of Cumbria and Theatre by the Lake will sign a memorandum of understanding on Thursday 15 June to formalise new ways of working between the two organisations.

It is hoped the agreement will signal even closer ties, allowing research and scholarly exchange to flourish along with new learning and continuing professional development. This will include the potential of collaboration for exhibition and performance-related activities.

University of Cumbria Vice Chancellor, Professor Julie Mennell, says: “Our two organisations have a strong commitment to Cumbria and our communities. We are extremely pleased to be working with Theatre by the Lake to build a lasting partnership, which will not only help to strengthen our collective impact, but will contribute further to the arts and cultural offer of our region.”

The agreement is in a similar vein to further memos of understanding being signed, linking a number of significant cultural organisations in the region with the university.

Conrad Lynch, artistic director of Theatre by the Lake commented: “The theatre and the university are keen to embrace new ways of working together in order to provide students with a broader understanding and participation with the work of a producing theatre. The partnership will also support the theatre’s staff and organisational development. We look forward to working with Julie and the whole team at the University of Cumbria.”
