Council to launch planning document consultations

[R]esidents are being invited to have their say on changes to two draft development plans.

Proposals are for the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and for the whole of South Lakeland outside the national parks.

South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) have been working with Lancaster City Council on a dedicated plan that will guide any future development in the AONB.

Hundreds of people have already had their say in consultations and drop-in events held in 2015 and 2016, but a four week pre-publication is launching for comments on three site changes put forward by respondents during the previous consultation.

Opinions are sought on the three site changes – relating to land in Silverdale, Storth and Arnside – only. Comments will help assist the councils in deciding whether to make these changes in the final document, which is due for publication later this year.

The draft AONB plan sets out proposed sites for development or protection and outlines the planning policies for the AONB that will guide any development that takes place in the future.

In addition to this, SLDC is also preparing a Development Management Policies Development Plan Document (DPD) for South Lakeland, outside the national parks.

The document will provide detailed policies which will be used when assessing planning applications, and will help manage and shape new development across the district.

Following previous consultation on the draft Development Management Policies DPD last year, SLDC are proposing changes to some of the policies contained in the draft document and the introduction of two new policies.

Full details of the proposed changes are available to view on SLDC’s website at www.southlakeland.gov.uk.

Comments on changes to both draft development plans are invited between Monday, 19 June 2017 and 5pm, Monday, 17 July 2017.

Comments to either development plan can be made by using the online consultation response at http://applications.southlakeland.gov.uk/ldfconsultation/.

Anyone that doesn’t have access to the website can contact SLDC’s development plans team to request a response form.

Details of proposed changes to the Development Management Policies DPD can also be viewed at any of the locations listed below. Additionally, response forms can be collected at these locations, during normal opening hours, and returned to SLDC by either email or post:
