Star search for ‘Sleeping Beauty’

[A]fter the huge success of last December’s fantastic production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, The Sands Centre and production partner Enchanted Entertainment are planning another Christmas spectacular, and need local children aged 8+ to perform in ‘Sleeping Beauty’ alongside the professional cast. Children who are interested in auditioning are invited to attend an open audition at The Sands Centre on Sunday 17th September.

  • 8-11 year olds 12.30pm (registration from Midday)
  • 12-15 year olds at 3pm (registration from 2.30pm).

This year, there will also be auditions for local dancers aged 16+, which will take place in the morning of 17 September at 10am (registration from 9.30am). There is no upper age limit to audition to perform in this year’s pantomime.

The Sands is also searching for a local female rising star to play the title role of Sleeping Beauty. Female performers aged 18+, will be auditioned on Saturday 16th September at 10.30am (registration from 10am) at The Sands Centre, with any recalls happening the following day. This will be a great opportunity for a budding local female actor to gain her first professional contract. Hopefuls should bring two contrasting songs of their choice with a CD backing track for the audition panel to listen to them sing. They will then be given some acting sections of the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ script to perform in front of the audition panel on the day.

Producer Jezz Weatherall said: “We’re looking for local performers with dance experience and a strong jazz technique to be the dancers in ‘Sleeping Beauty’ alongside our professional cast. Auditionees should bring appropriate clothing/footwear on the day and also be available to rehearse every Sunday from 22nd October onwards, as well as performing in the pantomime itself in December.”

This Christmas, for the first time ever, the pantomime will feature amazing 3D Projection as well as its usual fantastic live band, stunning set and lavish costumes. The show will be packed with a host of top stars including, Carlisle’s own Lee Brennan – (Lead vocalist from boyband 911) playing the Prince; and Eastender’s favourite Cheryl Fergison (Heather Trott) as the Wicked Fairy. Also back by popular demand this year, the region’s favourite breakfast DJ – Robbie Dee as the Dame and the hilarious Dean Winters as the Jester.

Director Guy Pascall said: “With such a fantastic cast and this year’s amazing 3D Projection, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is set to be the most dazzling Christmas panto yet at The Sands Centre and we’d like as many local performers to be involved in the show as possible. Not only do we need our usual teams of dancers, but this year we’re also looking for a local actress to play the title role of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, who falls in love with our handsome Prince – otherwise known as 911’s Lee Brennan!”

Tickets for ‘Sleeping Beauty’, which runs from 11-31 December with 35 performances are on sale now and already selling fast. Call the Box Office at The Sands Centre on: 01228 633766 or book online at thesandscentre.co.uk
