10p swims are back and, with the brand new swimming pool in Workington – are better than ever.

Children aged 16 and under will be able to take advantage of the offer at the swimming pool in Workington, as well as the centres in Cockermouth and Keswick, all of which are owned by the Allerdale Borough Council who is funding the scheme. Kids can also swim for 10p at Wigton Baths and at Netherhall Community Sports Centre in Maryport.

Dates, times and sessions will vary between the pools taking part so please check with your local pool before visiting. The scheme will continue throughout the school summer holidays.

Michael Heaslip, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive member with responsibility for sports development, said: “I’m really pleased to see that we can offer 10p swims for kids again as I know how popular the scheme is. We’ve pledged to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities and money should not be an object to people accessing sports and leisure activities – so this scheme ticks all the boxes.”

Normal pool adult to child supervision ratios apply at the swim sessions and entry may be denied if the maximum bather numbers are reached. For opening times and other details including eligibility criteria, please contact the pools direct or look on their websites.

The contact numbers and websites are: Cockermouth 01900 823596, Workington 01900 878718, Keswick 017687 72760, web address for all three: www.better.org.uk/areas/allerdale. Wigton 016973 42412 http://wigtonbaths.co.uk/ and Maryport Netherhall Pool 01900 813 434 www.facebook.com/netherhallcsc.

Allerdale Borough Council provides sporting facilities in partnership with Greenwich Leisure Ltd, under the Better brand. The 10p swims offer is just one of the many activities on offer over the summer holidays.

Residents can also download the myAllerdale app to find links to the Council’s leisure centres, as well as access to other services such as reporting flytipping, checking bin calendar dates and paying bills. The app is free and available on the Google Play, Apple, and Microsoft app stores. Just search for ‘Allerdale’.
