[T]he new 2017/18 football season is looming and Penrith AFC Ladies are looking forwards to what promises to be their most ambitious and exciting season to date.

With a new Development Team being accepted into the Lancashire County Womens League, Penrith AFC now boasts 2 senior Ladies teams. The Development team joins the well established Penrith AFC Ladies Team who compete in the North West Womens Regional League.

Manager Simon Savage said “We currently have very healthy numbers of committed players wanting to play football at the club as well as many young players progressing form our girls teams. We needed to create a Development team to cater for their needs and to promote their football progression”.

Savage continued “Preseason has gone well. Player commitment has been good, as it always is. This has allowed us to undertake an ambitious preseason programme including some attractive fixtures against teams such as Chester City, Warrington Wolverines and Hartlepool United. The Preseason preparations have also included a youth tour to Northern Ireland with an U18 team playing 3 fixtures against Carnmoney Girls, Ballymena Allstars and Linfield Swifts respectively. The tour proved to be a superb team bonding experience too with many of this young team expected to feature in the new Development team”.

Penrith AFC Ladies have added to their coaching team too with Mark Slee joining the club as Goal Keeping coach.

Now attention focuses on the immanent start of the competitive games. Penrith AFC Ladies kick off their season on with a tough FA Womens Cup tie against South Park Rangers (North Riding League) at Frenchfields on Sunday 3rd Sept. This is followed a week later with their open NW Regional League fixture on Sun 10th Sept when Penrith welcome Preston North End Ladies to Frenchfields.

The Development team start their Lancashire League fixtures on Sun 10th Sept with a tough home game against Haslingden Ladies.
