[A] RIP-OFF roofer has failed to secure the early end of an ASBO he was given for a cruel crime.
Charles Henry Rico Evans was said to have used aggressive tactics to secure repair work at the West Cumbria home of a 79-year-old widow in 2008.
Evans, then aged 18, charged the pensioner £1,100 for simple renovations worth just £100 – and drove her to the bank to collect cash.
Evans admitted two Fraud Act crimes and, in 2009, received 18 months’ youth detention and an anti-social behaviour order. This banned him for 10 years from making unsolicited calls at houses, and obtaining building and repair work without express prior consent.
At Carlisle Crown Court today (THURS), Evans, now 27, appealed for the revocation of that ASBO. The married father-to-be was said to have matured, remained offence-free and wanted to find lawful employment to support his family.
But after hearing Evans had been offered scrap metal work by a relative which would be unaffected by the ASBO, Judge Peter Davies ordered it to remain in force until 2019.
“What is important is making sure old people aren’t bothered by you,” Judge Davies told Evans, previously of Beaufort Street, Peasley Cross, St Helens, and latterly of Kelty, Fife.
