South Lakeland District Council adopts development briefs

[S]outh Lakeland District Council (SLDC) has adopted planning documents for two sites in the district, which will help enable the delivery of new homes.

On Wednesday, 30 August, SLDC’s Cabinet approved adoption of development briefs for Green Dragon Farm, Burton-in-Kendal and north of Sycamore Close, Endmoor.

The development briefs are now part of the Local Plan for South Lakeland outside the National Parks.

Development briefs provide site-specific planning guidance, setting out details that inform developers and other interested groups of the constraints and opportunities presented by a site, and the type of development that is encouraged or expected on each site.

The briefs will also help to guide planners when considering future planning applications for the development sites.

SLDC portfolio holder for housing and innovation, Councillor Jonathan Brook, said: “As a council we are committed to help deliver new homes – including affordable homes both to rent and buy – across South Lakeland.

“The preparation of development briefs is an important aspect of setting guidelines for developers and helps us allocate land for the right type of development.”

The adoption statement, adopted development briefs, consultation statements and associated information can be inspected on the council’s website at www.southlakeland.gov.uk/development-briefs and at the following locations during normal opening hours from Thursday, 14 September:

  • South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, LA9 4DQ
  • Libraries in Kendal and Milnthorpe

Both development briefs have gone through a rigorous process – including several consultation stages – but if any person is aggrieved by the adoption they may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for a judicial review of the decision.

Any such application must be made promptly, no later than three months after the adoption date of 30 August 2017.

For further information, visit www.southlakeland.gov.uk/development-briefs or contact SLDC’s development plans team on 01539 793388 or via email: [email protected].
