[A] cross-border collaboration is bringing some of the finest art and craft from Dumfries and Galloway to Cumbria in time for Christmas.
The Upfront Gallery, near Penrith, will host an exhibition of work by 26 members of the Dumfries and Galloway based Upland visual art and craft development agency.
The Upland | Upfront exhibition will run from Tuesday, 14 November until Sunday, 14 January, with a special afternoon event on Saturday, 25 November.
It will be a chance to see and buy beautiful work including glass, painting, photography, jewellery, textiles, printmaking, ceramics, mosaic, sculpture and illustration.
Many of the exhibitors have previously taken part in Spring Fling, Upland’s annual art and craft open studios weekend which takes place all across Dumfries and Galloway, and attracts a large number of visitors from Cumbria.
Joyce Woodcock, Director at Upland Arts Development, said: “We are really looking forward to bringing Upland to Upfront. It’s a great way to further strengthen the artistic links between our regions – and a lovely chance for people to find some special Christmas gifts.
“Each year we invite Cumbrian artists to take part in Spring Fling through our Neighbours Scheme, so it’s lovely to be able to pay a return visit.”
While most of the exhibitors are based in Dumfries and Galloway, some are Upland members from outwith the region including Carlisle sculptor Mark Gibbs.
Others, such as Colin Blanchard, have previously lived or worked in Cumbria. Colin will be among the artists who visitors can meet at the open afternoon on Saturday, 25 November, from 2pm to 4pm.
Colin runs a full-time print studio producing original limited edition screenprints and linocuts, many of them inspired by British wildlife.
He will be demonstrating work on small-scale portable printmaking equipment and talking about his practice. The talk is free, however, space is limited so booking is essential. To reserve your place at the talk visit the Eventbrite here.
