[T]onight (17th October), Cumbria Police, with partner agencies are dealing with numerous incidents relating to the high winds. Public safety is at the forefront of the emergency service and partner agencies’ efforts.
Winds have reached up to 70 MPH on high, exposed, coastal areas, and incidents have been reported throughout Cumbria. Reports include trees down, roofs and debris on the roads and overhead cables down.
Police are urging the public to only make essential travel, drive with caution, take emergency supplies such as blankets, food and water and mobile phones and chargers, and to check traffic map www.cumbria.police.uk/traffic-link-map to keep up to date with the latest situation on the roads.
It is possible that roads, in places, may still be obstructed tomorrow morning so the public are advised to plan extra time for journeys and continue to drive with care.
