Two young men killed in A696 crash near Belsay

[P]olice are appealing for witnesses following a double fatal collision in Northumberland.

At 7.15pm on Wednesday, November 29, police received a report of a collision on the A696 near Belsay, 600 metres south of the junction of for Ogle.

For reasons yet to be established a red Peugeot 207 car travelling south has collided with a red Mercedes Sprinter van which was travelling north. The driver of the Mercedes Sprinter sustained only minor injuries

Emergency services attended and the two male occupants of the Peugeot, aged 21 and 22 years, were subsequently found to have died.

The road was closed for six hours to enable the casualties to be dealt with and the scene to be examined, with local diversions in place.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police motor patrol on 101 quoting reference 896 of 29/11/17.
