[T]he weather may still be wintry but we are assured that spring is on its way – and with it Theatre by the Lake is thrilled to welcome the wonderful Metta Theatre with their latest show Little Mermaid: the Circus Sensation, which plays in the Main House on 23 and 24 March. TBTL is also delighted to announce the award-winning Metta Theatre as a new Associate Company of the theatre.
As recently featured on CBBC’s Blue Peter, Little Mermaid: The Circus Sensation is a beautiful retelling of the much-loved fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, featuring spectacular circus skills and gorgeous original music performed live.
The Little Mermaid longs for life on land, the Prince is consumed by the lure of the sea. When a raging storm brings them together, the wheels of fate are set in motion. Sacrificing her voice to the powerful Sea Witch, the Little Mermaid and her Prince will face many more obstacles if they are ever to be together.
As they head into their final weeks of rehearsal, Artistic Director Poppy Burton Morgan said: “What a location to premiere this underwater adventure. We’re thrilled to be bringing this brand new production of a brand new genre to Theatre by the Lake – the circus musical! We’re even more delighted to announce that Little Mermaid marks the first of Metta’s shows in Keswick as an Associate Company at the theatre.
Little Mermaid is an extraordinary mix of music and movement, circus and song – crazily ambitious, and something truly unique. We can’t wait to bring our trademark fusion of visual spectacle and emotionally powerful performance to the Lakes, now and for many years to come.”
The performances at Theatre by the Lake launch Metta’s UK Tour of the show, which also include Derby Theatre, Theatre Royal York, and The Lowry amongst others.

Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 7pm and there is a Saturday matinee on 24 March at 2pm, with tickets from £12 to £18 (under 16s £10). The show is suitable for ages 8 plus.
