[A] WHITEHAVEN man accused of wounding a woman in the town has denied the allegation.
Jason Cogan, 30, faced one charge when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court over a video link from custody.
Cogan pleaded not guilty to the alleged unlawful and malicious wounding of Zoe Bennett with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.
The charge arises out of an incident on the night of February 17. A woman is said to have suffered what a Cumbria police spokesman has called a “serious chest injury – believed to have been caused by a bladed article”.
She was said to have been taken to hospital with “serious but non life-threatening injuries”, and later discharged.
Having denied the charge, Cogan was told that a trial date had been set for June 18. It is estimated that hearing, at the crown court, will last three to four days.
In the meantime Cogan, of Duke Street, Whitehaven, was remanded in custody by Judge James Adkin.
