[A] MAN accused of involvement in a plot to “deliver” cocaine to Carlisle from his home city of Leeds has gone on trial.
Gurparshad Singh Rothore, 23, was arrested along with a passenger as he drove his Audi A4 convertible southbound on the M6 on November 1.
His vehicle was earlier seen being driven suspiciously by plain-clothed police in Denton Holme, where the passenger had been driven off in another vehicle before swiftly returning.
Rothore, of Street Lane, Leeds, denies conspiracy to supply cocaine, between January 1 and November last year, and possessing criminal property.
He has gone on trial at Carlisle Crown Court, where a jury heard today (MON) how almost £9,000 cash was found inside his car by police.
A prosecutor has alleged that Rothore and his Leeds-based passenger, Jose Mboma, 21, of Green Pasture Close who admits the two charges, made at least four separate visits to Carlisle “to deliver drugs and collect money”.
But when arrested, Rothore’s reply to police was: “It’s nothing to do with me. Jurors have heard other two men – Mark Eric Libby, 27, of Shaddongate, and 23-year-old Brendan Laverick, of Caslin Way, both Carlisle – have admitted the cocaine conspiracy charge.
Rothore’s trial continues.
