[A] NEW weekly physical activity session for teenagers will launch in May to give young people aged 10 – 16 years plenty of sport to do.

Barrow ParkLives, is an initiative from Barrow AFC Community & Cumbria County Council which aims to offer different sports and activities at Hindpool Urban Park.

From football, to tag rugby and boxing, the FREE activities will promote physical activity and give youngsters the opportunity to try new sports.

Barrow ParkLives starts on Monday 14th May and runs every Monday, from 6pm to 8pm until the middle of July.

Craig Rutherford, Barrow AFC, said: “We want to take sport and physical activity right to the doorsteps of young people in local communities.

“The kick-about area provide the perfect place to get young people together – not only is the activity free but it’s in a familiar environment.”

“We are looking forward to ParkLives and are hoping this has a positive impact on Hindpool and hopefully motivates more young people to live active lifestyles.”

All sessions will be led by qualified coaches who will also be able to sign-post youngsters to local clubs.

Emma Broadbent, Community Development Officer; “We have chosen the sports to take place in Hindpool Urban Park as this is easily accessible to the local youths.  We have also tried to incorporate a range of sports which are all being provided through the good will of local community coaches who are giving up their time to help out and showcase their club.

“The aim of ParkLives is to use sport to help young people to become healthier, safer and more successful. We are using sport to empower young people to kick-start a cycle of positive change in their own lives that resonates across their communities.”
