[C]OPELAND Council is supporting two free, fun events for dog owners this summer.

The events are at Haverigg on June 5 and St Bees on  July 11, both from 11am until 3pm.

They are run by the Turning Tides Partnership, of which Copeland Council is a member. The events are part of the LOVEmyBEACH campaign for clean, safe beaches and seas.

Dog owners will be able to meet others and discuss ways they can work together to keep beaches and seas clean.

At each event the LOVEmyBEACH team will run dog walks at noon and at 2pm, each lasting around an hour and covering about two miles of the coastline.

A veterinary nurse from The Dogs Trust will also attend both events to carry out free basic health checks, microchip and offer tips for happy, healthy dogs.

Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Customers and Communities, Coun Mark Holliday, said: “We have great beaches. We want to encourage people and their pets not only to enjoy and look after this amazing scenery, but also to have happy, healthy pets.”

No appointment is needed  for the veterinary services – dog owners can just drop in any time between 11am and 3pm. The dog walks also do not need to be booked.

For the Haverigg dog walk, meet next to the main car park on Sea View (opposite the Beach Café). For the St Bees one, meet at the grassed foreshore area near the public toilets.

Although the events are not bookable, those considering attending can express their interest on these Facebook event pages: https://www.facebook.com/events/1994832670766334/ and https://www.facebook.com/events/1980625035300896/

All dogs are welcome, but please arrive with your dog on a lead. For more information contact [email protected].
