[E]ntries opened this week for Scruffs, the popular fun dog show in Fitz Park. This year Scruffs will be on Sunday 1 July.
Available from Podgy Paws Pet Shop in Keswick entries cost £3 per dog per category entered. There are 14 classes to enter this year plus the overall ‘Best in Show’ with a fantastic array of prizes on offer from local businesses. There will be rosettes for places 1 to 6 plus the coveted ‘wooden bone’ for the dog who has caught the eye of the judges.
Chris Harper of Podgy Paws said “We are delighted to be supporting Scruffs again this year, its popularity is a reflection of just how much we all love our dogs in Keswick. As ever, local businesses have been really supportive of the show with two sponsors for each category and two brilliant prizes. This means there’ll be a prize for 1st place and for the wooden bone winner. Over the last couple of years we’ve noticed that some categories sold out quickly, so this year we’ve decided to have just one ring, increasing the number of entries in each class. “
Proceedings on the day will be run by Professor Paws, with help in judging by the businesses sponsoring each class. As well as the opportunity to enter categories such as ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best biscuit catcher’ there will also be the Dogathlon agility course and Terrrier Racing. Then at 4pm the overall Best in Show winner will be declared and presented with the Harry Winter Trophy.
The day will start at 10.30 with a demonstration of Medieval Combat by Battle Heritage. An amazing demonstration of hand to hand combat in full amour. You can also visit a range of stalls offering crafts, food and dog related items throughout the day in between watching the judging in the main ring.
The show is free to watch but donations will be collected for the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path. “The Railway Path is a popular route with dog walkers and we are happy to support the fundraising to see it back open” said Chris Harper.
Scruffs is part of the Keswick Midsummer Festival organised by Keswick Town Council.
