[A] Wythenshawe man has been jailed after a man was killed in a one punch assault.

Kevin Reilly (22/09/1983) of Altcar Walk in Woodhouse Park has today, Wednesday 20 June 2018, been sentenced to six years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of 28-year-old Matthew Summerfield.

At around 6pm on Saturday 14 October 2017 Kevin Reilly and Matthew Summerfield were involved in a dispute on Moat Road.

During the dispute Matthew was punched once in the head by Reilly and as he fell he hit his head on the ground, falling unconscious before being taken to hospital.

In the following days Matthew’s condition worsened to the point he became unresponsive and sadly died as a result of his head injury.

Reilly was arrested and after Matthew’s death was charged with his murder.

On Monday 19 June 2018 Kevin Reilly pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Matthew Summerfield at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square.

Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe, of GMP’s Major Incident Support Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident, an argument which descended into violence leading to the death of Matthew Summerfield.

“My thoughts are with Matthew’s family they have been so strong and dignified throughout this devastating time.

“Whatever the sentence it will not bring Matthew back however I hope they can find some closure in today’s result.”
