Police are appealing for information after sheep were stolen from a farm in Howburn, Alston on Rotherhope Fell.

The theft is believed to have occurred between August and November in which 24 Swaledale sheep have been stolen.

The sheep have identifying marks including a red vertical stripe on one side and GT burnt into the horn.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact police quoting log 15 of 7th December 2018.

Police would like to remind farmers and the public to be vigilant in rural areas of any suspicious individuals.

There is now a dedicated Crimstoppers Rural Crime Reporting line to give information anonymously about large-scale industrial fly-tipping, hare coursing, livestock theft, machinery theft, after the crime has been committed.

However if a crime is in progress or there is an emergency, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used, you should call 999 immediately. If you don’t need an emergency response, you can call 101.
