Police are appealing for information after two men were assaulted inside a Carlisle bar in the early hours of this morning.

One man suffered a head wound in an attack at Havana in Botchergate at about 3.20am.

Detectives are trying to trace another man, who was punched in the face. He left the bar without contacting police.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and for the second man to come forward.

The injured man – who is in his twenties and from Carlisle – went to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for treatment and was later discharged.

A man, 31, from Carlisle, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody today.

Detective Constable Dawn Grant said: “We want anyone who saw or knows anything about this incident to contact us.

“We would also urge the other man who was assaulted who left the bar to come forward.

“There will have been other people in the bar at the time who may have seen the incident or know the other person involved.”

Anyone with information should contact DC 1756 Grant on 101.
