A CARLISLE burglar caught in the act on his victim’s home security system has been jailed for more than three years.
Philip Bright, 47, entered a property at the city’s Boundary Road while the householder was visiting a relative’s address close by.
The occupier returned to find previously closed internal doors were open, and that a wallet, two sets of vehicle keys and a large jar containing around £2,000 worth of coins had been snatched.
When he viewed footage from two security cameras at his home, the victim saw a middle-aged man entering before emerging a few minutes later carrying something heavy with both arms.
A police officer who viewed CCTV stills recognised Bright – a man with 98 previous offences, including two other home break-ins, to his name.
Bright, of Jubilee Road, Carlisle, admitted burglary when he appeared at the city’s crown court earlier today (WED), having earlier admitted cocaine possession. These crimes were committed while he was on licence having received a prison sentence for one of his previous two burglaries.
Bright was jailed for a total of 39 months by Judge Peter Davies, who told him: “You are 47 years of age. The time has come when you really shouldn’t be coming to the crown court as frequently as you are.”
