Kendal Police are warning of potential traffic delays for Saturday 16th March around the town centre area, as Kendal honours the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment with a Freedom Parade.
The following road closures will be in place on the 16th March:
- 11am and 11:30 from Busher Walk to Kirkland (to Church)
- 1:15 pm to 1:45 Kirkland to Stricklandgate, Library Road junction (from Church), there will be a Rolling closure behind the parade.
- Stricklandgate from Library Road to Finkle Street will remain closed while the parade is inspected.
Congestion is likely in and around these areas and motorists are asked to plan their journey accordingly.
The route of the parade is from Busher Walk, Windermere Road, Stricklandgate, Highgate and Kirkland to the parish church. After a thanksgiving service the parade will return to Strickland gate for inspection outside the library
Local Inspector, Paul Latham said: “This prestigious event is expected to draw large crowds, we want everyone to have a brilliant time so safety is our main concern, making road closures necessary. Delays are to be expected and drivers are advised to avoid these roads and Milnthorpe Road around the road closure times.
“A reminder when planning your travel that, Queens Road remains closed, therefore the best route from the south of Kendal to the north will be via the bypass.
“We hope to see lots of people at this significant event and we ask anyone who finds themselves inconvenienced to have patience.”
