Emergency Services are currently in attendance at a chemical fire at Cummersdale Print Works.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue received a report of a fire at around 11.10am today (30 May, 2019).

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “There have been no serious injuries as a result of the incident.

“Six employees were taken from the scene by ambulance – five were taken as a precaution only whilst the sixth was experiencing some minor issues.

“Cumbria Police has put in place a 400m cordon and there is no risk to anyone outside this cordon.

“The fire is now out.

“Fire and Rescue and police remain at the scene. However, the cordon will be reduced to the site boundary.

“Of the six patients who attended hospital – five are expected to be discharged shortly whilst the sixth is being kept in longer for observations only.

“There are no outstanding persons.

“The emergency services would like to thank the public for their patience during this incident.”
