Pop-up recycling site set up in Workington

A new recycling site has been set up in Workington to help people dispose of recycling while kerbside collections are temporary suspended.

The facility is located at the car park to Solway House in Workington and residents are advised to use the entrance on Moss Bay Road. Residents can use it to recycle their glass, cans and plastic waste.

The bins are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The council announced it was suspending recycling collections for up to two months from 8 July 2019. The decision was taken after changes to its waste service saw bin crews not being able to make it to some properties on the scheduled day. Therefore, the temporary suspension of collections is designed to help crews complete the rounds while more permanent solutions are devised by the council and FCC Environment, who collect the waste on the council’s behalf.

The temporary suspension also affects residents’ garden waste collections. However, domestic waste, paper and card collections, and all types of trade waste collections are not affected.

Council officers are monitoring all of its recycling bring sites on a daily basis to assess usage. A full list of the locations, opening times and where garden waste can be disposed of, is available on the council’s website: https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/waste-recycling/recycling-centres/.
