Award-winning singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Ford will bring his trademark one-man-band show to Cumbria as part of his UK tour this autumn.
Ford will bring his complex, audacious and downright mesmerising live spectacle to life for audiences at Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal on Thursday, 17 October.
The tour is Ford’s latest and most refined one-man band show to date, from an artist who has been using loop machines for almost 20 years to single-handedly create the sound of a six-piece band.
An artist that defies classification or comparison, Ford writes and performs with fluency across multiple genres, plays every instrument on the stage and even invents new ones to create truly unique recordings and performances.
As well as playing sold-out headline shows on both sides of the Atlantic, he has toured with and supported artists such as Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Ray LaMontagne, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Gomez, Aqualung, Richard Ashcroft, Suzanne Vega, Augustana, Ingrid Michaelson and Jakob Dylan.
It is perhaps as a songwriter that Ford is held in the highest regard. Often praised for his lyrical dexterity and willingness to tackle matters of politics and current affairs, Rolling Stone commended his “Genuine depth and striking authority”, while The Telegraph described his work as “Smart, angry, witty, emotional songs, delivered with raw-throated passion.”
David Ford said: “I’m looking forward to touring my latest one-man band show. I’ve built a set of brand new machines, loopers and instruments for this tour to help me play some huge, lush versions of some of my favourite songs. Every live show is different so Kendall audiences can expect a genuinely original performance unlike any other when they come to Brewery Arts Centre on October 17th.”
Ford’s debut album, I Sincerely Apologise for All the Trouble I’ve Caused, was included in both The Times and Word Magazine’s top ten albums of the year. His records have achieved number one slots on iTunes and in 2014, he received the French Grammy award for best original song. His most recent album, Animal Spirits was an unconventional yet surprisingly accessible, even soulful collection of songs about economics.
