Royal Oak Appleby committed to its community

Using quality, locally sourced ingredients nutritious takeaways are being provided by the well known Royal Oak Inn & Pub, Bongate, Appleby thanks to the enterprising new South African owners, Troy & Casandra Lee.

Having only taken over as the new licensees from the 17th February, they had barely found their feet when they were hit by the effects of Covid19 and finally had to close their doors.

But with South African, rugby-honed determination and their experienced head chef Mike Wally, they quickly came up with the idea to advertise their menu as take away. Casandra & Troy are personally handling deliveries of the food items, adhering to the most hygienic standards. This has been advertised by the team in way of social media marketing as well as a pamphlet drop.

Keen environmentalists, all meals will be served in hygienic, eco-friendly recyclable containers.

“We are naturally devastated by the effects of the pandemic but we are conscious of the needs of our regulars and community, many of whom are classified as vulnerable, and will thus continue allowing people to enjoy food we are proud of.” Said Casandra Lee

“Unlike some outlets not only do we deliver but have much more flexible times.”

“We only began the scheme last weekend but were delighted that on Saturday and Sunday alone, we did over 20 meals. We are also pleased that some carers began collecting for their vulnerable clients, but we are very careful not to have any contact, leaving the meals on a bench outside at pre-arranged times.

“We will change the menus regularly and are asking the customers what they would like, which Mike, who has worked at top rosette establishments, will work on.

“Like the stoic and community-spirited locals we have met since arriving here, it was a blow to have to close but we and the whole team are committed to ensuring the Royal Oaks continued success. We are also working on ideas to expand the take away service as well as plans for the future. We will not be bowed by this temporary hiccup!” concluded Casandra.

The Royal Oak is offering their pensioners menu which starts at £6 a meal during the hours of 11am and 3pm daily as well as their full menu 7 days a week between lunch time and from 5pm to 8pm. Orders can be placed in advance on 017683 51463 or on [email protected]
