
The Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mrs Claire Theresa Hensman, on Tuesday 2 April 2020 appointed the following to be Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Cumbria:
Mrs Caroline Thomson, lives in Abbeytown.
- Has various national roles, currently including – Oxfam, National Gallery, Digital UK, and English National Ballet. Caroline was Chief Operating Officer of the BBC and responsible for bringing the BBC to Media City in Salford.

Commander (SCC) Philip Burns MBE RNR, lives in Barrow.
- Recently retired from BAE Submarines
- Senior Staff officer for the North West for the Sea Cadets and on the National Sea Cadet Advisory Council
- Member of the Cumbria and Lancashire Advisory Committee for the Appointment of Magistrates.
Colonel (Retd) Christopher Sanderson OBE JP, lives near Kendal.
- Chairman of Cumbria Scouts, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Association, and recent Chairman of the Army Benevolent Fund’s Cumbria Committee

HM Lord-Lieutenant for Cumbria, Mrs Claire Hensman, said: “I am delighted to appoint five new Deputy Lieutenants to the county to assist me in my duties as the Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria. I have a number of Deputy Lieutenants located around the county who have a wealth of experience in connection with voluntary organisations, the Armed Forces and all other aspects of life in Cumbria.”
