Fundraising walk to Wembley without leaving Carlisle

Throughout May members of a local junior football team will make the most of their daily exercise as they virtually walk from Brunton Park to Wembley in aid of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

Players, coaching staff and family members of the Gillford Gillies Under 8’s team will be walking the 311 miles between the two stadiums during May to support the local charity.

Manager Darren Scaife explained, “We wanted to raise funds for both Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw as in this current situation we’re all going through everyone seems to be focusing their fundraising attention on our brilliant NHS. But I felt that the hospices and care homes, who are equally at risk, needed some help too.

“The reason I chose this fundraising idea was I saw Captain Tom Moore walking laps of his garden. I then thought that we could use this original idea and add a football theme, hence why we’re walking from Bruton Park to Wembley Stadium.”

The money raised by the Gillford Gilles will allow the local charity to provide care and support to local people with life limiting conditions. This care and compassion is extended to all the patients’ family, friends and carers. If you would like to sponsor the team please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darren-scaife

Darren continued, “I’m sure that my young football team and their wonderfully supportive parents will really enjoy completing the distance. Seeing as though we’re all out walking, running or cycling for our daily exercise anyway, it gives our kids an added incentive to get outside and help those less fortunate than themselves.”

As key workers, both the clinical and support staff teams at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice are here for the local community. The hospice is doing all it can during these times to continue to provide care to those in need, whilst following strict guidelines.

Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw is open and continuing to provide care and compassion to local people with life limiting illnesses. The hospice is there for the local community and still supporting the NHS.
