Carlisle Magistrates Court

A WHITEHAVEN man has appeared in court accused of both assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-partner.

Raymond Andrew Pears, 44, faces two charges which arise out of an incident which is said to have occurred an address in the town at around 7-30am yesterday morning, May 24.

One charge alleges that Pears made a threat to kill Christina McNulty, intending that she would fear that it would be carried out. A second charge alleges that he assaulted her by beating.

Pears appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Carlisle this morning (MON), when he gave his address as Ennerdale Terrace, Whitehaven.

During a short hearing, no pleas were entered to either of the allegations, Pears speaking only to confirm his identity, personal details and nationality.

After hearing a brief summary of the allegations from prosecutor Tom Snape,  magistrates committed his case to Carlisle Crown Court.

Pears is due to appear there in front of a judge on June 26. In the meantime he was remanded in custody by magistrates.
