Cumbria’s biggest lockdown party

THE biggest lockdown party in Cumbria is set to welcome in the summer and put the smile back on people’s faces.

Happy Out Loud Day 2020 will take place on Saturday June 20 – the Summer Solstice – with families and communities across the county coming together for one HUGE celebration.

Organised by We Amplify Cumbria, the event invites people to party at home, in their gardens, at work, wherever they can connect with people ‘lockdown style’ for lots of smiling, laughter, and having fun. All in the name of raising morale – and raising the roof.

Claire Armstrong of We Amplify Cumbria says: “The original idea was to partner up with pubs, clubs, bars, cafe bars and other social venues, they would organise their own event and each party would amount to a community of parties, coming together with a common goal, for people to come out and revel in the joy of being part of a community.

“The initial idea came after the Cumbrian floods in 2015, and this project has been an absolute labour of love. There’s been a few hurdles, tweaks, and variations along the way.

“Then came COVID-19. I did think about giving up , but after a moment of clarity, I thought ‘we deserve this now, more than ever!’.

“I noticed a lot of performers starting to live stream their talents during lockdown, and these events were bringing people together, soI thought it would be a good chance to showcase local talent that way instead.

“If it means doing it in a virtual space to bring people together and lift people’s spirits, then that’s what we need to do.”

Whether you are living on your own, with family or friends, Happy Out Loud Day aims to encourage everyone to throw the best party possible in quarantine, as the event ripples out each party will amount to a variety of parties, ‘coming together’ with a common goal.

You can have fun with fancy dress, food and drink, music, entertainment, live performances and even a bit of fundraising – anything you can think of that might raise a smile.

“We Amplify Cumbria, at its core, is all about unity, about bringing people together, and no-one has yet attempted to join a variety of fantastic parties, culture and arts in this way,” Claire continues.

“Happy Out Loud Day is an attempt to unite a variety of performers and artists in the region, for a moment of community and togetherness.”

We Amplify Cumbria are asking any performers and artists to do what they can to create a happy atmosphere that provides entertainment for others on Happy Out Loud Day.

Participants are asked to use the hashtags #WeAmplifyCumbria #RipplesMakeWaves #HappyOutLoud and #HappyHeroes on any social media activity in the build-up and on the day to help share the fun.

If you want to try and raise some money for charity or another good cause, that is completely optional but might also be a good way to raise morale.
