Police appeal after woman raped in Penrith

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to an incident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning (14 June) in the Carleton Road area of Penrith.

At 3.37am yesterday, police received a report of rape which was alleged to have occurred in an alleyway shortly after 1.30am.

The victim, a woman in her 30s from the local area, is being supported by officers.

Officers have been conducting enquires to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Detective Inspector Patrick McDonnell, North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team, said: “An investigation into a report of rape is ongoing. We have a team of detectives who have conducted numerous enquiries, including house-to-house and CCTV, to fully establish what has occurred.

“The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

“I would encourage anyone with any information on this incident to please contact us as it may assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from the North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team or quote incident number 39 of 14 June. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
