A burglar jailed for crimes in Cumbria has been banned from the county for four years when he is released.
Craig Butterworth, 53, of Fern Isle Close, Rochdale, admitted four burglaries between December 3 and December 9 last year.
On May 28, he was sentenced to four years in prison for the crimes, which happened in the Grange-over-Sands and Allithwaite areas at four homes while the occupants were away.
Butterworth broke in, forcing doors and smashing windows to gain entry to the property.
Butterworth stole jewellery and cash from one of the addresses and even used cleaning products to eliminate traces of himself during one of the break-ins.
However, officers were able to place Butterworth at the scene of one of the addresses by obtaining a DNA swab.
Today, Thursday June 25, Cumbria police secured a four-year criminal behaviour order for Butterworth.
The conditions of the order mean that Butterworth must not enter the county of Cumbria for four years.
A spokesman for Westmorland and Furness’s Community and Serious Organised Crime Team said: “We hope this order will make Butterworth think twice before reoffending in Cumbria upon his release from prison, or face the consequences of further time behind bars.
“This order gives officers further powers, and we will not hesitate to act if these conditions are breached.”
The punishment for breaking the terms of a criminal behaviour order can be up to five years in prison.
