Cumbria County Council’s Eden Local Committee supported three allocations of funding to benefit children and young people in Eden, at the Local Committee meeting held on Tuesday 14 July 2020.
The allocations included an award for Carlisle Eden Mind of £4,433, to enable young people to build on the original Share-a-Smile initiative, a mental health project led by young people in Eden. The funding will help to create a legacy so that future generations of young people will benefit from the initiative.
An award of £5,000 was allocated to Hesket Parish Council to contribute to the renovation of Armathwaite Play Area, which includes the installation of new play equipment and improvements to accessibility.
Members also awarded £1,720 to Eden Runners. The funding will enable the running club to purchase waterproof hi-vis running tops for all the junior runners. This essential kit will be available for all their junior runners, helping to keep them safe while training through the year.
Cllr Phil Dew, Chair of Eden Local Committee, said: “The 0-19 grants are available for not for profit groups working with children and young people in the local the community and it is really pleasing to see how much the funds have benefitted our young people in Eden, providing opportunities for outdoor activities, fitness, social engagement, as well as supporting mental health.”
