Brampton is set to see a Summer of activities for children and young adults across all ages as part of a County wide approach to supporting key workers, low income families and those families who need support over the summer holidays.
Working closely with Community Development, Children’s Services, Schools, Youth Providers and voluntary groups, Brampton Area Action Group has secured funding from Cumbria County Council to support a number of 2-day Summer Camps taking place in Brampton and Talkin Tarn. Places on the first four camps have been secured free of charge and Brampton Area Action Group continues to seek additional funding to support the remaining camps.
The Summer Camps are part of a far bigger programme of activities brought together by Brampton Area Action Group, Brampton Community Centre, Carlisle Youth Zone, and Fellfoot Forward Project.
A spokesperson for Brampton Area Action Group said: “This project is part of a wider county led initiative to ensure children and young people’s physical and mental wellbeing is met through positive activities, whether that be sport, outdoor adventures, art and learning and good nutrition.”
Parents, carers and families are set to benefit from this provision ensuring that their children have a safe, positive environment to enjoy the outdoors, make friends, learn new skills, interact with others and make positive memories after COVID 19 and a period which for some, has been extremely difficult.
She went on to say that “The programme has been put together in just over three weeks for Brampton and cuts across all ages from preschool to 18 year olds, something I don’t believe we’ve seen in this area of Cumbria for many years.”
All providers who will be delivering activities will be abiding by Government guidelines on COVID 19, ensuring that children are within ‘bubbles’ and have the necessary public liability insurance, DBS checks and qualifications to carry out the activities/services provided.
Brampton’s S.H.I.N.E. (Support, Help in Nourishing Everyone) food initiative will also be supporting the project by providing packed lunches along with food support to families who may be struggling as a result of changes due to job losses or financial uncertainty.
