Man jailed for drug supply offences

A man from Manchester was sentenced on Thursday 6th August at Carlisle Crown court for drug supply offences.

Billy Smith, 26 of Lodge Road, Atherton, Manchester was sentenced to 2 years 6 months for possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A – Cocaine and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class B.

On the 24th February 2019 at around 10:30pm officers stopped a vehicle on the A591 near Ambleside.

The driver of the vehicle, Smith was spoken to by officers at the road side and admitted to smoking a joint of cannabis. Officers informed Smith that they were going to search his vehicle in which he ran off.

Officers located mobile phones and a quantity of controlled drugs within the vehicle

Officers later located Smith in Ings at 2:30am in which he was subsequently arrested, following a search officers found a check list and sum of money in his wallet.

Detective Constable Andrew Wright said: “Cumbria Constabulary is committed to pursuing anyone and everyone connected to the supply of drugs in the county and today’s result shows the consequences that await those who are caught being involved in dealing drugs.”
