£200,000 investment transforms Grange-over-Sands station

One of Northern’s popular Lake District stations has been revamped thanks to an investment of more than £200,000.

The joint project from Northern and Network Rail has transformed Grange-over-Sands car park and toilets – giving customers a better, more welcoming station.

New toilets at the Cumbrian station are now open to the public and have been fully refurbished to meet the needs of the hundreds of passengers who use the station each year. The toilets have been fitted with improved tiling, flooring, toilets, sinks, new hand dryers and enhanced baby changing facilities.

In addition, resurfacing work has been carried out in the station’s car park. The improvement work has ensured that pedestrian areas are clearly marked, and the one-way system has been made significantly clearer.

Jane Murray, Station Manager at Northern, said: “We are working hard with our colleagues at Network Rail to make our stations better for customers. Improvements like these at Grange-over-Sands are essential in delivering our long-term strategy for the rail network.

“I am confident that these enhanced facilities will be welcomed by our customers. We are really pleased to see that the upgrade has been completed to such a high standard. It’s a real transformation.”

Northern and Network Rail have been working together to improve stations across the north of England, to provide passengers with better experiences and journeys.

Phil James, Network Rail’s North West route director, said: “We’re constantly investing in the railway to make it better and more reliable for passengers in Cumbria. The improved facilities at Grange-over-Sands station are important investments that put passengers first.

“This is a great example of the Great North Rail Project in action as we work with Northern to encourage more people to travel by rail for work and leisure in the North West.”
