Police were contacted at 10pm on Saturday 3 October, along with the ambulance service, to a report of a serious road traffic collision on the Carlisle to Harker road at Crindledyke.
Involved in the collision was a Mercedes C220 and a pedestrian, a 25-year-old man.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “He was treated at scene by ambulance before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital Newcastle and his condition was initially described as serious.
“Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident or anyone who may have dash cam footage to please get in touch.”
