Conservation charity Friends of the Lake District has been overwhelmed by hundreds of stunning images submitted to their photography competition this year. With lockdown measures in place for much of the competition period, the focus was on past visits to the Lake District National Park.

Undeterred by this, members of the public sent in over 400 entries in the hope of featuring in the charity’s 2020 Christmas card collection and 2021 calendar.

The winning photos were chosen by charity members, staff and Trustees and include views of Buttermere, Borrowdale, Grisedale Pike, Crummock valley and a sweeping shot of Derwentwater at dusk. Twelve winning images now take pride of place in the charity’s 2021 calendar, with a further five wintry scenes featured on this year’s Christmas cards.

The calendar – £10 and Christmas Cards – £5.50 are available to purchase now from Friends of the Lake District’s website www.friendsofthelakedistrict.org.uk/shop or by calling 01539 720788. All money raised from sales will go towards work to support the Lake District and Cumbria’s world class landscapes and heritage.

Vanessa Rhoden, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Friends of the Lake District, said: “It’s clear from the response to this year’s photography competition that our National Park continues to inspire and delight. With this year’s theme of past visits, we received many stories from people telling us about their trips over the years and the many fond memories they have of those times.

“The Lake District holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we’re thrilled to be able to capture our National Park, in all its glory, through these wonderful images.”
