Carlisle Crown Court

A MOTHER accused of neglect offences involving several children in an Eden village has appeared in front of judge.

The woman faces a number of charges. These allege child cruelty against a number of youngsters who are said to have been “wilfully neglected in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health” between 1st June, 2017, and 27th January, 2018.

During a short appearance at Carlisle Crown Court today (WED), she pleaded not guilty to each of the allegations she faces.

The woman, who can’t be named to protect the identity of the children, spoke from the dock to enter her pleas having confirmed her name, date of birth and nationality.

A trial in front of a jury was listed and is due to start on 2nd August next year. It is estimated this will last just over a week.

In the meantime, a pre-trial review hearing is due to take place at the crown court on 15th January. Until then the woman was granted unconditional bail by the judge, Recorder Katherine Pierpoint.
