FOUW is happy to announce another Understanding Ullswater Evening Talk that will take place on Wednesday 4th November at 19.30 and will be given by Jamie Normington, the Senior Education and Volunteering Officer of the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

Jamie will talk on: Lost Words on the Ullswater Way

It had originally been scheduled to be presented at Watermillock Village Hall but now will take place by ZOOM because of COVID 19 restrictions.

The talk is inspired by the wonderful book Lost Words published in 2017, written by Robert Macfarlane with illustrations by Jackie Morris. In June, this year Jamie walked 200 miles to raise funds to buy 200 nature books for 200 Cumbrian schools, visiting schools and communities along the way. His adventure involved 1000 children, a royal visit, a gallery opening and even a mountain rescue. Expect lots of wildlife, music, stories and art – suitable for all ages.

It will be hosted by FOUW. To register for the event individuals will have to write an email to [email protected] and a ZOOM invitation will be sent nearer the time.

Tim Clarke, the Chair of the Friends of the Ullswater Way, said: “We are very excited to hear Jamie’s talk. He is an incredibly passionate and engaging speaker and the award-winning book which he will talk about is one of the most inspiring nature books of recent years. We are very privileged to be able to host this talk.’’

Background: The Friends of the Ullswater Way (FOUW) was created in April 2016 and has been primarily focused since its inception on the creation of the Ullswater Way Heritage Trail. It was granted Charitable status in 2019.
