Rail customers reminded to check before they travel this December

TransPennine Express Nova 3 train

TransPennine Express (TPE) continues to provide a safe and secure service for those that need it and this December, its timetable change will reflect this.

The train company is currently running around 80 per cent of its pre-Covid-19 services, many with extra carriages to support social distancing. Although this will remain unchanged for most services, there will be some changes to train times and customers are asked to plan ahead and check before they travel.

From 14 December 2020, TPE will continue to provide an hourly service from Manchester Airport to Redcar, and Liverpool to Newcastle which will now additionally call at Lea Green.  A service between York and Scarborough will now run hourly, eliminating some two-hour gaps that had existed previously.

The Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes service will be enhanced to run hourly and elsewhere, the Manchester to Hull, Leeds to Huddersfield, and Huddersfield to Manchester services continue to run hourly.  The Edinburgh to Manchester service continues to run two hourly, with just occasional services through to Glasgow Central.

Commenting on the changes, Jerry Farquharson, Service Planning Director for TransPennine Express said: “We continue to focus on providing a consistent and reliable train service for those that need it and customers can feel confident when travelling with us.

“Our team has been working incredibly hard to provide a service that is as safe as possible, from running more trains to delivering the extensive cleaning programme that is in place onboard our trains and at stations.”

“Customers travelling by train are reminded to check before they travel, buy before they board, travel outside peak times where possible, respect social distancing and wear a face covering.”
