Cumbria Care is appealing for people to send Christmas cards to their residents this festive season.
Due to COVID-19, many residents have faced a difficult year, distanced from family and friends, which is why Cumbria Care is participating in the #CardsForKindness campaign this year.
The Cumbria Care team is inviting people to send a Christmas card to their local care home to help bring some festive cheer and joy to residents.
Anne Priestley, registered manager of Christian Head Care Home in Kirkby Stephen, said: “After a very difficult and stressful time for the residents and staff teams, and as we prepare for a very different Christmas this year in the care homes, receiving a Christmas card is very much a tradition that our residents really enjoy.
“Receiving cards through the post from the surrounding community will help give some sense of ‘normality’ to the festive season. And will be a boost to everyone’s spirits.”
Councillor Patricia Bell, Cumbria County Council’s cabinet member for health and care services, added: “While Christmas may be different for most of us this year, for older people living in care homes it may be particularly challenging.
“Many of the normal festive activities have had to be adapted to keep everyone safe, but the annual tradition of sending and receiving cards remains unaltered.
“Sending an extra card to a care home helps older people know you are thinking of them and will provide a real boost to lift spirits.”
