A project to help Cumbrian writers share their creativity online has been launched.
The Carlisle See/Hear bookshelf on Facebook is for people to write, record and upload their work.
Delivered by Carlisle group, Effective Communities , it is funded by the Department for Media, Culture and Sport and the National Lottery.
‘Group member Mark Costello said: “The idea behind the project is to develop a place where local writers can display their creativity, but also deliver an opportunity for others to sit back, have a cuppa and a listen, and more importantly connect with others through the stories.
“The last 12 months has been isolating for many and so being able to listen to other people’s voices can be a joy.”
The project was also inspired when speaking with people with vision loss, who no longer able to read, were interested in additional local material to listen to and to complement other talking books.
Currently there are a range of short story and poetry titles on the group’s Facebook page, ranging from children’s stories to tales of the Reivers to science fiction and more.
The aim is to have at least two dozen by the end of March, and hopefully more to follow.
