£5,000 windfall for unknown Penrith Lottery winner

Anyone who finds an extra and unexpected £5,000 in their bank account has probably won the Penrith Lottery.

Organisers of the draw said they had been unable to contact the jackpot winner from December, despite multiple attempts via phone and letter, so they decided just to deposit the cash into the member’s account directly.

The draw took place on December 16.

Organisers deposited the jackpot recently, but say they are still waiting to hear from the winner.

Richard Utting, of Penrith Lottery, said: “We were really excited for our jackpot draw, especially so just before Christmas.

“And being able to tell one of our members they’ve won and to present a cheque to them is the best part of the role!

“Imagine viewing your bank statement and seeing such a large amount being deposited into your account? I hope they were sitting down when they saw it!

“We would love for the member to get in touch with us so we can congratulate them in person, even though it might only be virtually at present’.

The local lottery has been running for nearly 11 years, and members are urged to notify the lottery if their contact details have changed.

Being a member costs £2 a week with the vast majority paying by standing order.

Richard added: “Our members are a really loyal bunch – I think they sign up, continue to make regular payments, then maybe they move house or change their phone number or email address, and forget to tell us!”
