Staff from North Cumbria’s NHS trust have reflected on their experiences of the pandemic as a national survey of the service is published.
The National NHS Survey 2020, which took place in autumn 2020, asked two additional questions on what lessons should be learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and what has worked well and should continue.
Some themes from this included: more focus on staff wellbeing; the continued use of video meetings and virtual appointments where appropriate; more agile working; better team working to support each other and more use of volunteers.
This is the first full set of results for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust as a single organisation with just under half of staff completing the survey in line with the national average (45 per cent).
It provides the trust with a clear indication of how staff are feeling and what actions they need to take to make improvements.
Lyn Simpson, chief executive said: “It has been a tough year, as a new organisation then faced with a pandemic, and I’m really proud of everything that we have achieved together.
“What’s important is that we act on what our staff are telling us, including the learning we can take from the pandemic and what worked well that we could keep.
“Staff wellbeing is a huge focus for us as we recover from the pandemic and since the survey took place, we have significantly expanded our support for staff wellbeing.”
