Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is planning six further discussions following the success of its International Women’s Day event.
On March 8 the chamber invited five women in leading roles across the county to be involved in an online discussion about the advice they had received throughout their careers.
The event was attended by more than 100 women and men from across the county. Due to its success, the Chamber is now planning a further six future ‘Women in Business’ events in the next 12 months.
The sessions will be free to Chamber members and will be sponsored by Baines Wilson LLP.
“It was great to get together and have such a positive celebration of women in business in Cumbria,” said Suzanne Caldwell, managing director of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.
“The range of participants absolutely highlighted the breadth of ways women are contributing to Cumbria’s business economy.”
Joanne Holborn, partner and head of employment law and training at Baines Wilson LLP said: “Baines Wilson LLP are delighted to sponsor the Women in Business events again in 2021.
“The events are a great platform to recognise new and established female entrepreneurs who are working hard across Cumbria and making a significant contribution to the local economy.
“We look forward to working with the Chamber and meeting the many great businesswomen of Cumbria.”
Fiona Cloherty, multi-business owner from Barrow said: “As an independent female multi-business owner in Barrow I often feel on my own.
“The IWD panel event was hosted by Catherynn who just made you feel connected immediately. It provided such a relief to me in understanding that I’m not alone.
“This event has really inspired me to reconnect with like-minded women in Cumbria. It gave me a huge boost of confidence and please, can we have another.”
Charlotte Davies, of CharlotteDavies.com said: “I really enjoyed the International Women’s Day event. The speakers provided some interesting insights into their leadership roles and experiences in a very transparent and relatable way. It was also good to virtually meet other businesswomen in Cumbria in a supportive environment.”
Elaine Southward, of HiDef Surveying said: “The Chamber organised such a positive event especially in light of the current challenges many businesses are experiencing during time.
“I found the session enjoyable and inclusive but also enlightening as it is always good to hear other people’s stories and experiences.”
