A man has died following an incident on the M6.
Emergency services were called at about 2.50pm on Saturday to the report that a car had collided with the nearside barrier on the M6.
The crash involved an Audi A5 on the northbound carriageway in the area of Roundthwaite, south of junction 38 (Tebay).
Police and other emergency services attended the scene. However, witnesses reported a man believed to be the driver of the Audi had left the scene on foot, heading in the direction of the A685.
It was also reported the man was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the A685 before leaving the area towards Tebay fellside.
Following a search, the man was found in a nearby river. He was taken the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he sadly died.
He has been formally identified as Derek Wroe, aged 50, of Houldsworth Street, Stockport.
