Staff at a Cumbrian harbour have spoken of their excitement after a boat measuring more than 140 metres in length pulled into their port to load.
The Port of Workington welcomed the MV Petrotrans-5901 Russian boat this morning, which docked at about 8.30am.
The vessel will be loaded with shredded tyres before being transported to Turkey.
“It is the most exciting thing we have had here for a while,” said a spokeswoman for The Port of Workington.
“It is certainly longer than anything I can remember. They are generally under 100 metres in size.”
Despite being a significant length, the boat is only 16.9 metres in breadth.
It is difficult to say how many boats are welcomed to the port each month on average, but the spokeswoman estimated it to be about 15.
The boat is expected to be loading at the port until the beginning of next week.
It is anticipated that the boat will be close to – or full – before it leaves on its journey of more than 2,600 miles.
